About the Band
Perth & District Pipe Band has roots in the late 19th century. The band’s own history records that it was founded in 1893 by Pipe Major Peter MacDonald, a chemist who was also Pipe Major of the 4th Volunteer Battalion Royal Highlanders.
Archive records also preserve material relating to the band across much of the 20th century, showing its long-standing role in Perth’s civic and musical life.
