About the Band

Buchan Peterson Pipe Band was formed in 1970 and is based in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. The band was initially a non-competing pipe band and was first led by Pipe Major George Thom. Over time it developed into one of the leading competition bands in the north-east of Scotland.

The band draws players from across the north-east, including Peterhead, Aberdeen, Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Huntly, Keith, Elgin, Forres and beyond. In 2016, Buchan Peterson earned promotion to Grade 1, becoming the only band north of Perth set to compete at that level at the World Pipe Band Championships the following year.

In more recent seasons, the band has continued competing strongly, including in Grade 2 under Pipe Major Peter Morrice. Its public profile describes it as founded in 1970 and currently competing in Grade 2.
