About the Band

Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band is part of the Feilding & District Caledonian Society and Pipe Band in Manawatū, New Zealand. The band is based at Caledonian Hall, 55 Weld Street, Feilding, and continues to practise weekly, with public listings showing Monday evening practices and contacts for piping, drumming and parade enquiries.

The band has a long local history. A New Zealand Gazette entry from 1945 refers to The Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band Incorporated, with an incorporation-style reference dating to 1927, while heritage material includes a photograph of the band from around 1930. Newspaper records also show the band active by 1939, with Pipe Major F. A. McSkimming named in a Wanganui Chronicle report.

Today, the society describes itself as celebrating Scottish and Irish heritage and culture in Feilding and the wider Manawatū. Public details are not as deep as for some bigger contest bands, so the safest summary is: Feilding Caledonian is a long-running community pipe band with roots at least back to the late 1920s, still keeping Highland music visible in the town.
