About the Band

Bucksburn & District Pipe Band is based in Bucksburn, Aberdeen, and was formed in 1947. Its early story is strongly linked to founding Pipe Major David C. Duncan, who helped build the organisation after being challenged over the lack of a top-level pipe band in the Aberdeen area. The band’s first engagement was an Armistice Day parade, led by four founding members: David C. Duncan, George Cruickshank, James S. Brown and William Maitland.

Over the decades, Bucksburn became one of the best-known bands in north-east Scotland, representing Aberdeen at home and internationally. The band has competed at a high level, including Grade 2, and has produced its own players through a strong teaching culture. Its youth development work has also been a major part of the organisation, with the youth section winning Scottish, British and World titles in 2008.

Today, Bucksburn & District continues as both a competition and teaching band, offering piping and drumming tuition while also playing at parades, concerts, functions and community events.
