About the Band

William Kerr Memorial Pipe Band is a Northern Ireland pipe band based in the Mid Ulster area, commonly associated with Drummond. The band was founded in 1945 and remains active in competition, currently listed around Grade 3B on Pipe Band Rankings. Its public profile shows regular contest appearances across the Ulster and wider Northern Irish pipe band circuit.

The band’s own recent anniversary material marks 1945–2025 as an 80-year story. According to that account, its roots go back to the Second World War, when Bob Lucas learned to play the pipes while serving, later helping establish the band after returning home.

William Kerr Memorial has been particularly visible in recent seasons, competing in Grade 4A and Grade 3B events, including Ulster, Mid Ulster, Fermanagh and World Championship contexts. Reports from 2024 noted strong results, including a third place at the World Pipe Band Championships while competing from Drummond.

Like many community bands, its importance is not only in trophies but in continuity: keeping local piping and drumming alive, training players, turning out for contests and representing its area across generations.
