About the Band

Queen Elizabeth Pipe Band is based in Castledawson, near Magherafelt in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, and was established in 1953. The band has long been part of the Mid Ulster pipe band tradition, serving as both a local community band and a competition outfit. Its public profile notes regular Tuesday practices and a continued presence in the Castledawson area.

The band is affiliated with the RSPBA Northern Ireland Branch and has competed in the lower grades, with recent listings placing Queen Elizabeth in Grade 4A, in the Mid Ulster section. RSPBANI band-list information also records the band wearing McLean of Duart tartan and lists Gordon Gilmour as Pipe Major.

Queen Elizabeth Pipe Band remains active at Northern Ireland contests, including appearances at the All-Ireland Pipe Band Championships and the Heart O’Down Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships. Today, it continues to represent Castledawson through competition, practices and community performance.
