About the Band

Matt Boyd Memorial Pipe Band is based in Pomeroy, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, and is an active competition band in the RSPBA Northern Ireland Branch. Publicly available formal history is limited, but the band is named in memory of Matt Boyd, who was killed in 1993. The band has become closely associated with the Pomeroy community and the wider Mid Ulster pipe band scene.

Recent listings show Matt Boyd Memorial competing in Grade 3A, in the Mid Ulster section, wearing the Modern MacPherson tartan. RSPBANI information lists Alan Ferguson as Pipe Major and Gary Smith as Lead Drummer, while the band’s own public profile has described it as a competitive band from Pomeroy.

The band continues to perform at Northern Ireland contests, local events and community occasions. Recent public coverage also highlights its younger members and its role in encouraging more people into piping and drumming.
