About the Band

Grampian Police Scotland Pipe Band is an Aberdeen-based police pipe band with origins dating back to 1907, when it was formed as Aberdeen City Police Pipe Band. The band originally wore Hunting Gordon tartan, later changing uniform and tartan before adopting the Grampian Police identity after police-force reorganisation in the north of Scotland.

The band has a strong competition history, including periods in Grade 1. It was promoted to Grade 1 for the 1995 season, returned to Grade 2 in 2005, and was back in Grade 1 for the 2012 season, placing 16th overall at the 2012 World Pipe Band Championships.

After several difficult years and wider changes around Police Scotland pipe bands, Grampian Police was reported as returning in 2024, under Pipe Major Julie Brinklow and Leading Drummer Lucy Maclean. The band’s current public profile describes it as founded in 1907, based in Aberdeen, and competing in Grade 2.
