About the Band

The Wallacestone & District Pipe Band is based in the village of Wallacestone, near Falkirk in central Scotland, and was formed in 1887. It is recognised as one of the oldest surviving civilian pipe bands in the world. The band’s first Pipe Major was John Wilson, who led it from 1887 to 1895, followed by Thomas D. McLuckie. Early members were closely linked to the local mining community, with miners helping finance the band from their weekly wages.

By the early 1900s, Wallacestone was already competing successfully at local contests, including regular wins at Bathgate. The band has survived two world wars, economic hardship, regradings, and more than a century of contesting. It has competed across several grades, including spells in the higher grades, and remains active today in RSPBA competition.

Since 1973, the band has worn Hunting Sinclair tartan. Today, Wallacestone & District continues as a proud Falkirk-area pipe band with deep community roots, serious historical mileage, and enough staying power to make most bands look like mayflies with chanters.
