About the Band

Royal Army of Oman Pipe Band was established after Sultan Qaboos bin Said came to power in 1970. Sultan Qaboos had trained at Sandhurst and served with the Cameronians, a Scottish regiment, which helped inspire his interest in Highland piping and led to the creation of Omani military pipe bands.

The band forms part of Oman’s distinctive military music tradition, combining ceremonial service with Scottish-style piping and drumming. It has represented Oman internationally, including regular appearances at Highland games and Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association contests in Scotland.

In recent years, Royal Army of Oman has competed successfully in the lower and middle grades, including Grade 4A at the 2024 European Pipe Band Championships, where it placed fifth overall in the final, and Grade 3B activity in 2025.

Today, the band remains one of the most recognisable non-Scottish military pipe bands, representing Oman through ceremony, public performance and international competition.
