About the Band

Milngavie Pipe Band is a community pipe band from Milngavie, just north of Glasgow. It was formed in 1966 as a town pipe band and has maintained a strong local role ever since, representing Milngavie at festivals, competitions, civic events, and performances at home and abroad. The band wears Buchanan tartan, said to honour former Provost John Buchanan, who helped secure the band’s home at Corbie Ha’, still used as its practice hall and social club.

Competitively, Milngavie has been active around the Scottish Highland games and major championship circuit for decades, with prize-winning appearances across the grades. Recent records show the band competing in Grade 3, including Grade 3A at the 2024 British Championships under Pipe Major Alexander Graham, wearing Ancient Weathered Buchanan tartan.

In 2025, RSPBA regrading notices listed Milngavie moving from Grade 3A to Grade 3B for the 2026 season, showing the band remains part of the current Scottish competition scene.
