About the Band

High School of Dundee Pipe Band is the school pipe band of the High School of Dundee, one of Scotland’s oldest schools, with roots traditionally traced back to 1239 and the current High School name adopted in 1859 under Royal Charter. The pipe band forms part of the school’s wider music programme and is one of its most visible performing groups.

The band has become especially successful in recent years. In 2022, High School of Dundee Pipe Band won the Novice Juvenile B World Pipe Band Championship, and the school also notes that the band was crowned World, European and British Champions that year.

That 2022 season was a major milestone: the UK Parliament congratulated the band on its World Championship win, its earlier European and British titles, and the work of tutors and music staff including David Wilton, Steven Graham and Dr Lionel Steuart Fothringham.

Today, the band continues to represent the school at competitions, concerts and public events, helping pupils develop piping, drumming, teamwork and performance confidence.
