City of Discovery Pipe Band was formed in November 2014 in Dundee, Scotland. The band grew out of the success of the 6th/8th Dundee Boys’ Brigade Pipe Band, which had enjoyed a strong competitive run, including 2nd place in Grade 4B at the 2013 World Pipe Band Championships and a Grade 3B win at the 2014 European Championships.

The band’s name reflects Dundee’s nickname, the City of Discovery, and it was set up with clear competitive ambition on Scotland’s east coast. Its social media profiles describe it as being formed from the achievements of the Boys’ Brigade band, while public charity records show the organisation’s formal structure dating from 25 February 2015.

In the years since, City of Discovery has competed across the Scottish pipe band circuit in various grades, with recent appearances in Grade 2 and Grade 4B activity noted in public contest media. The band continues to represent Dundee in competition while also promoting piping and drumming locally.
