About the Band

Carrigaline Pipe Band is a community pipe band from Carrigaline, County Cork, Ireland. Its roots go back to the wartime Local Defence Force, when pipers in the Carrigaline company formed an L.D.F. pipe band and made their first public appearance on St Patrick’s Day 1943. After the war, local piping and drumming enthusiasts formed the civilian Carrigaline Pipe Band, usually dated to 1946.

The band quickly became part of community life, playing at parades, sports events, shows, carnivals and county hurling occasions. One of its key early figures was Willie Cogan, a founder member and later Pipe Major, who served the band for more than fifty years. Carrigaline also built a strong travel and cultural record, visiting Brittany, Cowal, Glasgow and Galicia over the decades.

Competitively, the band has had success across Munster and Ireland, with historic honours including the All-Ireland Intermediate Grade 2 Championship in 1962. More recently, it has continued to represent Carrigaline in competition and community events, with public profiles noting its long service since 1946.
