About the Band

Camelon & District Pipe Band is a community pipe band serving Camelon, Falkirk and the surrounding area. The band was formed in 1913 and wears MacKenzie tartan, adopted because it was the regimental tartan of the 7th Battalion Royal Scots. The connection became especially meaningful after several Camelon members volunteered to replace pipers and drummers lost in the Quintinshill rail disaster of 1915.

The band has long combined local service with competition and tuition. It is a registered Scottish charity, teaches piping and drumming from around age 10 upwards, and continues to support players from learner level through to contest performance.

Competitively, Camelon has had notable recent success. The RSPBA Lothian & Borders Branch records the band as Scottish Champions 2019 in Grade 4B, RSPBA Champion of Champions 2019 in Grade 4B, and Lothian & Borders Branch Champions in 2018 and 2019. The band was later promoted, with its own site noting it will compete in Grade 3B in 2026.
