About the Band

Dean Castle Pipes and Drums is a new pipe band based in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, taking its name from the historic Dean Castle and Country Park, one of the town’s best-known landmarks. The band describes itself as a brand new band with a focus on competition, progression, and enjoyment, suggesting it has been set up with both development and contest performance in mind.

Although the band itself is very recent and does not yet have a long published history, the name gives it a strong local identity. Dean Castle was originally known as Kilmarnock Castle and was the stronghold of the Boyd family for over 400 years, before becoming one of East Ayrshire’s major public heritage sites.

In competition terms, Dean Castle Pipes and Drums has already appeared on the Scottish contest scene, including Grade 4B activity, and has been listed among bands competing at events such as Gourock. Its story is therefore still at the opening chapter.
