About the Band

Jefferson Pipe Band is based in northern California and southern Oregon, with members drawn from areas including Redding, Chico and Grants Pass. The band began in 1985 as the Shasta Scots Pipe Band, starting with four pipers and two drummers, and first performed at local parades and graduations.

In the late 1990s, with members living across both California and Oregon, the band changed its name to Jefferson Pipe Band, taking inspiration from the proposed “State of Jefferson” region. The band began entering local competitions in 2003 and developed into a regional competition and performance group.

Jefferson travelled to Scotland in 2017 to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships, and in 2019 became Western United States Pipe Band Association Northern Branch Grade 5 champion. Today, it continues to promote Celtic piping and drumming through performances, teaching and competition.
