About the Band

Silicon Valley Pipe Band is based in Saratoga, California, and traces its roots to San Francisco in January 1980, when it was founded as St. Peter’s Highlander Pipe Band. In 1982, it became Stewart Tartan Pipes & Drums, reflecting the Royal Stewart and Hunting Stewart tartans worn by the band.

In 2018, the organisation was reformed as Silicon Valley Pipe Band under Pipe Major Adam Blaine, with a renewed focus on Scottish and Celtic arts, competition, teaching and attracting new piping and drumming talent.

Today, the band competes in Grade 3 and is part of the Western United States Pipe Band Association’s Northern Branch. It continues to represent the Bay Area through performances, competition and instruction, helping keep Highland piping and drumming active in Northern California.
