About the Band

PLC Pipe Band most commonly refers to the Presbyterian Ladies’ College Pipe Band in Perth, Western Australia. The band has been part of the College’s culture since its first performance at Speech Night in 1981. The idea was introduced in the late 1970s by Musical Director Eric Page, who wanted to create a group that reflected both musical standards and school spirit.

The band became a distinctive part of PLC’s Scottish heritage and is noted as Australia’s first girls’ school pipe band. Over the years, it has performed at school events, ANZAC Day parades, community occasions and major public events, including the International Cricket Series opening at Lilac Hill.

A major milestone came in 1988 when the band toured Scotland, giving pupils international performance experience. Today, PLC Pipe Band continues to develop young pipers and drummers through tuition, performance and competition, maintaining a proud tradition within Australian school pipe banding.
