About the Band

MacEóin-Ramsay Pipe Band is based in the Ottawa area of Ontario, Canada. The band was originally formed in 1981 under Pipe Major David Clyde and became a successful Grade 4 competition band before later becoming inactive. The name reflects both personal and local meaning: MacEóin means “son of John” in Gaelic, honouring the name of Clyde’s father, while Ramsay refers to the local Ramsay area.

After almost two decades dormant, the band was re-established in 2022 under Pipe Major Kris Bawden, with the aim of returning to Grade 4 competition. David Clyde was an influential Ottawa-area piping teacher, originally from Banbridge, Northern Ireland, and helped develop many players in the region.

Today, MacEóin-Ramsay Pipe Band continues to represent Ottawa and the surrounding valley through competition, performance and player development, carrying forward a name rooted in both family heritage and local history.
