Jeppe Pipe Band is based at Jeppe High School for Boys in Kensington, Johannesburg, South Africa. The band is one of the country’s oldest school pipe bands, with sources giving its establishment as 1943, while the band’s own history notes piping training beginning in 1945 and the first public band outing in 1946.

The first playing group included six pipers, six drummers from the existing bugle band drum corps, and a drum major. Early pipe majors included James Brode, George Greenhill and Frank Richardson, helping establish what became a lasting Jeppe school tradition.

Over the decades, Jeppe Pipe Band has become an important part of South African school pipe banding, performing locally and internationally, including appearances at the Basel Tattoo. It also won the South African Pipe Band Championships in 2014, after which membership increased significantly.
