About the Band
Roisin Dubh Irish Pipe Band is based in East Islip, Long Island, New York. The band was formed in 1980 and made its public debut in 1983 at the Grand Marshal’s Ball in St Mary’s Hall for the East Islip St Patrick’s Day Parade.
The name Roisin Dubh, meaning “dark rose” or “little black rose”, has long been used as a poetic symbol for Ireland. The band adopted the name to reflect its aim of preserving Irish and Gaelic musical culture, with the dark rose also echoed in the deep maroon colour of its kilts.
Since its formation, Roisin Dubh has become a regular presence on Long Island and across the wider New York metropolitan area, performing at parades, Hibernian events, competitions and feiseanna. It has also competed under the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association and appeared at the World Pipe Band Championships, including Grade 4B activity in 2024.
