About the Band

Canberra Burns Club Pipe Band is based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, and is one of the city’s oldest Scottish music organisations. The band is closely linked to the Canberra Burns Club, which was established in 1924 to support Scottish migrants and promote Scottish culture in the new capital.

The pipe band’s own history records its formation in 1928, when a group of players gathered at a Highland gathering in Canberra, although the band’s current site also describes its active heritage as dating from 1937.

Over the decades, the band has performed at community events, ceremonies, Highland gatherings and competitions across Australia. It has also competed internationally, including at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow. Today, Canberra Burns Club Pipe Band fields a Grade 4A competition band and continues to promote Scottish piping and drumming through performance, competition and member development.
