About the Band

Nottinghamshire Pipes & Drums is based in Nottingham in the East Midlands of England. The band was formed on Burns Night, 25 January 1994, when a small group of police and prison officers met to discuss creating a pipe band within the East Midlands emergency services. As there were not enough police officers alone to form a full band, membership was opened to other emergency service personnel, civilian staff, support staff and families.

With permission from the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police, the band was originally named The Nottinghamshire Police Pipe Band. Its motto, amicitia aeterna, means “everlasting friendship”. The band soon developed both as a performance group and as a teaching organisation for new pipers and drummers.

The band registered with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and has taken part in local and major pipe band contests. In September 2021, it rebranded as Nottinghamshire Pipes & Drums, reflecting its wider community membership while continuing its links to public service, performance and competition.
