About the Band

The Ulster Scottish Pipe Band traces its roots to Philadelphia, where the Philadelphia Ulster Pipe Band was started in 1922 by John A. Hall Sr., an immigrant from Cookstown in Northern Ireland. The band’s name changed over time before settling as Ulster Scottish Pipe Band.

Thomas Hall became Pipe Major in 1962 and led the band through a strong competitive era, including fielding Grade 2 and Grade 4 bands in 1986.

David Hall took over in 2004, leading the band to further competition success and appearances at the World Pipe Band Championships. In 2005, the Thomas Hall Memorial Pipe Band was formed as a Grade 5 sister band.

More recently, the band has been led by Pipe Major Eric Ouellette, with Derek Cooper prominent in the drum corps and instruction.
