About the Band

St Andrew’s Pipe Band is a Grade 2 pipe band based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The band was formed in 1945 at the end of the Second World War by members of the 61st Battalion, Queensland Cameron Highlanders, a unit with strong Scottish connections. Its original purpose was to preserve Scottish culture and maintain camaraderie among ex-servicemen.

Over time, St Andrew’s developed from a military-linked ex-servicemen’s band into a modern competitive and community pipe band. It continues to represent Brisbane and Queensland at pipe band contests, public events and cultural occasions. The band is currently listed by Pipe Bands Australia as Grade 2, making it one of the higher-level competing bands in Queensland.

The band has competed across Australia and New Zealand and has also travelled to Scotland, giving it an international competition footprint. It is based in Moorooka, Brisbane, and continues to attract pipers and drummers into the Queensland pipe band scene.
