About the Band

Renfrewshire Schools Pipes & Drums, also known as Renfrewshire Schools Pipe Band, was launched in 2017 as a Novice Juvenile band by Johnstone Pipe Band, working with Renfrewshire Council, Creative Scotland and the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Trust. The aim was to give young people across Renfrewshire access to structured piping and drumming tuition.

The band brings together pupils from first to sixth year across several Renfrewshire schools. It quickly developed into one of Scotland’s strong schools pipe band programmes, combining education, youth development and serious competition work.

Its biggest success came in 2023, when Renfrewshire Schools Pipe Band became World Champions. In 2024, pupils also won medals at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships, showing the programme was not just a flash in the pan.

In 2025, the band represented Scotland at New York’s Tartan Day parade, giving the pupils an international platform and a cracking story for the school corridors.
