About the Band

R.A.F. Lossiemouth Pipes & Drums is one of the Royal Air Force’s volunteer pipe bands, based at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray. The band’s modern identity comes from the former RAF Kinloss Pipes & Drums, which moved to Lossiemouth after RAF Kinloss was transferred to the Army in 2011.

Its roots go further back through the Kinloss band, which had worn Ancient Sutherland tartan from 1957. In 2015, RAF Lossiemouth Pipes & Drums changed to the official Royal Air Force tartan, bringing it into line with the other RAF station pipe bands, while retaining its own identity through station ties and traditions.

The band performs at military parades, remembrance events, station occasions, civic ceremonies and public engagements across Moray and beyond. Like other RAF pipe bands, it is made up of volunteer musicians from service personnel, civilians and the wider community.
