About the Band

Queenstown & Southern Lakes Pipe Band is based in the Queenstown and Arrowtown area of New Zealand’s South Island. The band has a long history in the Southern Lakes region, beginning with a small group of five pipers and six drummers. Its first AGM was held in 1954, and the band has played continuously since then.

The band has served as a musical presence across the region for parades, community events, festivals and civic occasions, keeping Highland piping and drumming active in one of New Zealand’s most scenic corners. It rehearses at Arrowtown Rugby Club and welcomes both experienced players and beginners, with tuition available for pipes and drums.

The band has also taken part in wider Celtic and pipe band activity, including performances around Arrowtown and preparation for national competition appearances. In 2012, local reporting noted the band drawing players from as far away as Cromwell and preparing to compete at the National Pipe Band Championship in Timaru.
