About the Band

47th Culter Boys Brigade Pipe Band is a youth pipe band from Peterculter, Aberdeen, with roots going back to 1938. It began as part of the local Boys’ Brigade tradition and played for many years at BB parades, gala days and community events around Culter. In 1980, the band joined the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, marking the start of a more formal competition era.

The wider Culter Pipe Bands organisation later grew from those roots. In 1983, the senior Culter & District Pipe Band was formed, adopting an emblem of Rob Roy with the BB crest on his shield to reflect the connection between the village, the Boys’ Brigade, and the pipe band tradition.

Today, 47th Culter Boys Brigade Pipe Band continues as the youth arm of Culter Pipe Bands, competing in the Novice Juvenile section while helping develop young pipers and drummers. The band has also appeared in Grade 4B contests, including North of Scotland and Garioch events, led in recent years by Pipe Major Craig Moir and wearing Old Inverness tartan.

It is one of those bands that quietly does the heavy lifting for the scene: teaching youngsters, keeping local music alive, and feeding the next generation into competition.
