About the Band

Manchester Pipe Band is based in Manchester, Connecticut, USA, and was founded in 1914 by Scottish and Irish families, many of whom had come to work in the town’s textile industry. It is one of the oldest pipe bands in the United States and has remained active for more than a century.

The band was inspired by the nearby Holyoke Caledonian Pipe Band and developed as part of the Scottish and Irish immigrant community in New England. Over time it became both a performance and competition band, taking part in parades, public events, Highland games and pipe band contests.

Manchester Pipe Band has competed in the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association, including periods in Grade 2 and Grade 3. Its competition history includes strong Grade 2 results in the 2000s, including first place overall in the 2009 EUSPBA Grade 2 standings. Today, it continues to promote piping and drumming through performance, competition and teaching in Connecticut.
