About the Band

Scotch College Melbourne Pipe Band is based at Scotch College in Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia. The school’s Pipes and Drums were established in 1946 as part of the school cadet corps, making it one of Australia’s oldest school pipe bands. The band wears the Gordon tartan and has become a major part of Scotch College’s Scottish and ceremonial tradition.

The band performs at school events, public occasions, ANZAC Day commemorations and Highland festivals, while also competing at state, national and international level. It has fielded several competition groups, including juvenile and Grade 4 bands, and has appeared at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.

A notable modern highlight came in 2017, when the band performed Mull of Kintyre on stage with Sir Paul McCartney during his Melbourne concerts. Today, Scotch College Melbourne Pipe Band continues to develop young pipers and drummers while representing one of Australia’s strongest school pipe band traditions.
