About the Band
St. John’s College Pipe Band is based at St. John’s College in Harare, Zimbabwe. The College was founded in 1986, and its pipe band was formed in 1996. The band quickly became an important part of school life, performing at sporting, cultural and formal events both within the College and across Harare.
The band has also competed beyond Zimbabwe, including regional championships in South Africa and appearances at the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland. In 2013, a group of senior players travelled to Glasgow to compete at the Worlds, helping raise the profile of Zimbabwean school pipe banding internationally.
Today, St. John’s College Pipe Band continues to develop young pipers and drummers through school tuition, performance and competition. It remains one of Zimbabwe’s notable school pipe bands and represents Harare within the wider international pipe band community.
