About the Band
Roñsed-Mor Pipe Band is the Scottish-style pipe band section linked to Bagad Roñsed-Mor, based in Locoal-Mendon in Brittany, France. The parent bagad was founded in 1969 by Alain Le Buhé and became one of Brittany’s leading bagadoù, winning the Breton Bagadoù Championship four times, in 1990, 1993, 1999 and 2003.
The name Roñsed-Mor means “seahorses”, a reference to the seahorses found in the nearby Étel river, which became the symbol of the group. Alongside its Breton bagad tradition of bombardes, bagpipes and drums, the organisation later developed a pipe band pathway, including the Sea-Horse Academy Pipe-Band for training and competition.
Roñsed-Mor Pipe Band has competed internationally and made a major breakthrough at the 2025 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, winning the Grade 3A title. The band is now associated with Grade 2 competition and continues to represent Brittany in the wider Scottish pipe band scene.
