About the Band

Hutchesons’ Grammar School Pipe Band is based at Hutchesons’ Grammar School in Glasgow. The school itself has a long history, founded in 1641 by brothers George and Thomas Hutcheson, and the pipe band forms part of its modern music and co-curricular programme.

The band gives pupils the chance to learn Highland piping and drumming, perform at school events and represent Hutchesons’ in the Scottish schools pipe band scene. It has taken part in competitions such as the Glasgow Highland Club Schools Piping and Drumming Competition, where Hutchesons’ placed second in the Junior Band section in 2025.

The band also supports important school occasions, including Remembrance services, where it has accompanied the school community at the war memorial.

Today, Hutchesons’ Grammar School Pipe Band continues to develop young pipers and drummers through tuition, performance and competition, helping maintain Glasgow’s strong school pipe band tradition.
