About the Band
Killeshin Pipe Band is based in Killeshin, County Laois, Ireland, close to the Carlow border. The band was formed in 1964/65 after a planned visiting band was unable to lead a local parade, prompting the community to establish its own pipe band. Early organisation was supported by a local committee, including Reverend Father Edward Matthews as chairman.
The band has remained closely tied to local community life, performing at parades, civic events, festivals and pipe band competitions. It has also supported tuition for new players, with members ranging from young learners to older experienced musicians.
Today, Killeshin Pipe Band continues as an active Grade 4B band, representing County Laois in Irish pipe band competition and community performance while maintaining a tradition that has lasted for around 60 years.
