About the Band

The Venlo Caledonian Pipe Band is a Dutch pipe band based in Venlo, in the Limburg region of the Netherlands. The band was founded in 1994 and traces its roots to Venlo, though its membership now reaches across the Netherlands, with players also coming from Germany and Belgium. Its own profile describes a band of around 15 pipers and 10 drummers, active in both performances and competition.

The band was previously known as the MacLaren Pipe Band, with competition references showing that name in use before the Venlo Caledonian identity became established. By 2016, Venlo Caledonian was competing under its current name and achieving Grade 4 results, including a first place at the International Highland Games in Angelbachtal and prizes at Molenhoek.

Today, Venlo Caledonian regularly takes part in national and international pipe band championships and remains one of the more visible Dutch pipe bands. Recent ranking records show it active in Grade 4A, continuing to represent Venlo and the wider Low Countries pipe band scene. A proper Limburg pipe band export: Dutch roots, Belgian and German reach, and enough Highland noise to make the Maas blink.
