About the Band
Peebles Ex-Servicemen’s Pipe Band is based in Peebles in the Scottish Borders. The band’s roots go back to the Second World War period, with returning servicemen helping to strengthen the organisation after 1945. By 1946, it had developed into a fully equipped pipe band, with 16 pipers, bass and tenor drummers, and a snare drum corps, and paraded in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh.
From the post-war years into the 1960s, the band played regularly at street events, parades and local occasions, while also taking part in pipe band competitions. It has remained closely connected with Peebles community life, including local festivals, civic events and public performances.
Today, Peebles Ex-Servicemen’s Pipe Band continues as an active Grade 4B competition and community band. It also supports learner development through school and youth activity, helping keep piping and drumming alive in the Borders.
