About the Band

Lewis Pipe Band is based in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis and was formed in 1904, making it one of the oldest community organisations in the Western Isles. It has long been part of island life, performing at local events, parades and public occasions, and is especially associated with its summer Saturday evening marches through Stornoway town centre.

Although historic as a community band, Lewis Pipe Band became more active in competition relatively recently, beginning in 2007 and then competing regularly from 2012. It progressed quickly through the grades, moving from Grade 4B to Grade 4A in 2013, Grade 3B in 2014 and Grade 3A in 2016.

Today, Lewis Pipe Band continues to represent the Isle of Lewis through competition, public performance and local tradition, keeping piping and drumming highly visible in one of Scotland’s strongest Gaelic and musical communities.
