About the Band

Cape Breton Island Pipes & Drums is based in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. The band operates under the Island Pipes and Drums Association and grew from a teaching programme launched in 2014 with support from the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. The programme was created to give young people across Nova Scotia free access to piping and drumming tuition.

The band has developed into both a performance and competition organisation, helping showcase Cape Breton’s strong local piping and drumming traditions. It has fielded bands at different levels, including Grade 3 and Grade 5, and is listed by the Atlantic Canada Pipe Band Association as an active member band in Sydney.

Today, Cape Breton Island Pipes & Drums continues to support player development, public performance and competition, representing Cape Breton’s musical culture within the wider Atlantic Canadian pipe band scene.
