About the Band
Brieg Pipe Band, better known as Bagad Brieg, is based in Briec, Brittany, France. The group was founded in 1978 by Michel Droual, beginning with only five musicians before growing into one of Brittany’s leading bagadoù. A bagad is the Breton form of a pipe band, combining Highland bagpipes, bombardes and a drum corps.
The band entered the Breton national bagadoù championship in 1981 and reached the top category by 1986. It later became Breton Champion in 2007, confirming its place among the major Breton ensembles.
Brieg also developed a strong Scottish-style pipe band identity. After beginning World Pipe Band Championship competition in the early 2000s, it won the Grade 2 World Pipe Band Championship in Glasgow in 2014.
Today, Bagad Brieg remains active in Breton music, competition and international performance, representing Briec and Brittany through its distinctive blend of pipes, drums and bombardes.
