About the Band

Gold Coast Tweed Pipes & Drums is based on Australia’s Gold Coast and traces its origins to the South Coast Pipe Band, formed by returning servicemen at the end of the Second World War. The Gold Coast name came into use in the early 1960s, when the earlier band split into Gold Coast Pipe Band and White Heather Pipe Band.

The Gold Coast band went into recess in the mid-1960s, before being revived in 1978 with sponsorship from Twin Towns RSL. Around this time, the band adopted the Ancient Sutherland tartan. In 1998, it gained support from Currumbin RSL, which later became its long-term practice venue.

Today, Gold Coast Tweed Pipes & Drums operates as both a competition and social band, rehearsing at Palm Beach Currumbin State High School. It continues to promote piping and drumming through community performances, tuition and public events across the Gold Coast and Tweed region.
