About the Band

87th Cleveland Pipe Band is a non-profit Scottish and Irish pipe band based in Cleveland, Ohio. It was founded in 1987 by John Crawley Sr. and has been active in the Northeast Ohio piping scene for several decades.

The band performs at festivals, parades, parties and community events across the region, and has also taken part in pipe band competitions in places including Canada, Michigan and West Virginia. It has been associated with the green Mitchell tartan and has built a reputation as both a performance and competition band.

Historically, 87th Cleveland has had links to higher-grade competition in the Cleveland area, with a former Grade 2 band dissolving in 2004, while the organisation’s name has continued through later community and competition activity.

Today, 87th Cleveland remains part of Ohio’s Scottish and Irish music community, promoting piping and drumming through public performance, competition and local engagement.
