About the Band

Chicago Highlanders Pipes & Drums is based in the Chicago area of Illinois, USA, and was established in 1921, making it one of the oldest continuously active pipe and drum corps in the United States. The band’s own history also links the Chicago Highlanders name to earlier piping activity in the city from the 1880s.

The band has long promoted Scottish piping and drumming through parades, civic events, Highland games, teaching and community performances. It is a member of the Midwest Pipe Band Association, with members competing both solo and with the band at local Highland games.

Chicago Highlanders wears the Royal Stewart tartan and has performed at major Chicago-area events, including St Patrick’s Day parades, Memorial Day events, the Fourth of July, university ceremonies and charity engagements. In 1959, the band was invited to perform for Queen Elizabeth II at Navy Pier during her visit to Chicago.

Today, Chicago Highlanders continues to teach new players and perform across the region, maintaining a pipe band tradition of more than a century.
