About the Band
Victoria Scottish Pipes & Drums is based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and is one of Australia’s oldest continuously operating pipe bands. It was established in 1909 by members of the H. V. McKay Sunshine Harvester Works Pipe Band, originally under the name Sunshine & District Pipe Band. Two of its principal founders were Pipe Major Lewis McLennan and Pipe Sergeant Andrew Donald, both from Broughty Ferry near Dundee, Scotland.
The band has remained active for more than a century, serving Melbourne’s western suburbs through competition, teaching and public performance. Today, it competes as a Grade 3 band and continues to promote traditional and modern pipe band music, while offering tuition in piping and drumming.
Victoria Scottish Pipes & Drums remains an important part of Victoria’s pipe band heritage, combining long history, community involvement and competitive ambition.
