About the Band

Queensland Police Pipes & Drums is the official pipe band of the Queensland Police Service, based in Brisbane. The band was formally approved in March 1958 by Commissioner Frank Bischof, with its first performance taking place at a swearing-in ceremony at the RNA Grounds in August 1958. Its first appearance in new band uniforms followed at the Australia Day procession on 26 January 1959.

The band was created to boost police morale, public presence and ceremonial identity, and it has since become a familiar part of official Queensland Police and state occasions. It performs at police inductions, National Police Remembrance Day, ANZAC Day, Government House events, parades, charity functions, hospitals and community engagements.

In 2018, Queensland Police Pipes & Drums marked its 60th anniversary, celebrating six decades of service with current and former members. Today the band continues to represent the QPS through music and public engagement, keeping the police pipe band tradition alive in Queensland.
