About the Band
Nashville Pipes & Drums is a community pipe band based in Nashville, Tennessee, and has been part of Middle Tennessee’s Scottish music scene since 1984. The band traces its beginnings to 18 September 1984, when a group of pipers, drummers and learners met in the Hillsboro High School choir room with the aim of forming a pipe band. Early organisers included Danny MacLeod, Scott MacLeod, Willie Cantu and Toby Parrish, with Jim Black elected as the band’s first Pipe Major.
The band’s purpose has remained focused on preserving and growing the tradition of the Great Highland Bagpipe and Scottish drumming in Nashville. It performs at civic events, memorials, church services, graduations, parades and celebrations, and has worked with emergency service organisations to honour fallen personnel.
Nashville Pipes & Drums also has a competition side, fielding bands in Grade III and Grade V, while offering free community lessons to encourage new players. Its performances have included appearances with the Nashville Symphony, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant and The Chieftains. The band wears Ancient Hunting Robertson tartan.
