About the Band

Moree Caledonian Society Pipes & Drums, also known as Moree Caledonian Pipes & Drums, is based in Moree, New South Wales, Australia. It is widely described as one of Australia’s most regional, and possibly most isolated, town pipe bands, serving a rural community far from the bigger city pipe band hubs.

The band has older roots in the Moree district, with public material noting that during the 1950s and 1960s it had around twenty pipers and ten drummers, wearing full regimental-style uniform with kilts, horsehair sporrans, spats and busbies.

After a quieter period, the band reformed in 2009 with a new committee and a more modern community focus. Since then it has provided piping and drumming tuition for people of all ages and abilities, helping keep Scottish music alive in northern New South Wales.

Moree Caledonian Pipes & Drums performs at local ceremonies, community events and Celtic gatherings, including Remembrance Day and regional festivals. It has also competed, with reports noting strong results at Queensland pipe band events.
