About the Band

Haileybury Pipes & Drums is the school pipe band programme of Haileybury in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The programme has been part of school life since 1957 and provides piping and drumming tuition for students from Year 4 to Year 12, covering Great Highland bagpipes, snare, tenor and bass drum.

The setup is substantial, with three registered bands: Grade 3, Grade 4B and Juvenile Novice B. The Grade 3 band also competes in Juvenile Novice A, while the Grade 4B band also competes in Juvenile Novice B, giving students a proper pathway from learner level into serious competition.

Haileybury has built one of Australia’s strongest school pipe band records. It has won the Victorian State Pipe Band Championships 32 times since 1984, and in 2023 its senior band won Grade 3B at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, described by the school as the highest result by any school pipe band programme in Australia.

The programme also runs regular performances at school and state events, including ANZAC Day, and hosts the Haileybury Pipe Band Contest at Keysborough, now a fixture in the Victorian pipe band calendar.
