About the Band
Greater Victoria Police Pipe Band is based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. It was proposed in October 2000 as a regional police pipe band serving the Greater Victoria area, with a mission to build camaraderie between police organisations, strengthen police-community relationships, and promote appreciation of pipe band music. (gvppb.com)
The band is a community-based police initiative rather than a full-time police-only unit. Charity listings describe it as committed to promoting police-community partnerships in Victoria, BC. It supports ceremonial, civic and memorial events, including police remembrance activity at the British Columbia Legislature. (canadahelps.org)
Competitively, Greater Victoria Police is active in the British Columbia Pipers’ Association scene. BCPA listings place the band in Victoria and show it competing in Grade 4, with instruction available. (bcpipers.org)
There is also a historical link with the older City of Victoria Pipe Band, a former Grade 1 Victoria band founded in 1972. Public summaries note that Greater Victoria Police Pipe Band absorbed the diminished City of Victoria band after its decline, carrying forward part of Victoria’s wider pipe band heritage.
